GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. 9WOOD0 - With an automatic big to the NAIA tournament on the line, Davenport lost the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship to Madonna, 72-58.
The Panthers battled back and forth the entire first half, with Dominez Burnett leading the way. The Freshman forward had a five point scoring spurt in the closing minutes of the first half to pull Davenport within five at the break, 37-32.
In the second half Burnett again took over the offense, grabbing his own offensive rebound and putting it back for the bucket and the foul while he fell to the ground. He finished with a team high 15 points and the hustle play tied the game at 39. But that's as close as the Panthers would come.
They had no answer for Madonna's Travis Schuba. He shot from any where on the floor. Schuba led the way for the Crusaders with a game high 22 points and shot 6 for 10 from behind the arc.
With the 72-58 win and the WHACÂ title, the 25-8 Crusaders get the conferences automatic bid to the NAIA tournament.
Davenport, 27-6, will learn if they will make the 32-team NAIA Division II tournament during tomorrows selection process at approximately 7:15 p.m.
