EAST LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) - It came down to the final seconds, but No. 18 Michigan State held off one of the hottest teams in the Big Ten, No. 11 Ohio State for a 59-56 win in front of a home crowd.

Keith ApplingĀ dunked the ball with 18 seconds left to put the Spartans up by four. But the game was far from over. Lenzelle Smith Jr. drained a three-point bucket to make it a one point game with just 13 seconds left. Appling though made both free throws after the Buckeyes fouled to extend the game. And a final three point shot was off the mark Shannon Scott as Michigan State remains unbeaten at home.

The Big Ten's leading score led the way in points for the game, Deshaun Thomas finished with 28, but the rest of the Buckeye team could only match that, 28 points combined. Michigan State got 15 from Appling and another 14 from Adreian Payne.

The Spartans are now 5-1 in the Big Ten and 16-3 on the season. The five wins in league play is better than any other Big Ten school and good enough for the top spot in the conference.

The Spartans will travel to the Kohl Center in Madison on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. game against Wisconsin.
