GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Dany Heatley scored two goals and the Minnesota Wild used a rare offensive outburst to hold off the Phoenix Coyotes 4-3 last night. Jason Zucker scored 1:35 into the game on Minnesota's first shot and Heatley added one late in the period on its third. Heatley scored again in the second and Jared Spurgeon added his first goal in more than a year to put the Wild up 4-1. Rostislav Klesla (RAHZ'-tih-slahv KLEHZ'-luh) also scored for the Coyotes, but goalie Mike Smith had an off night.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Gabe Rogers scored 24 points and Northern Arizona held Idaho State to just 20 points in the second half in a 67-58 victory last night. Northern Arizona also got 13 points from DeWayne Russell and 12 points and six assists from Stallon Saldivar. Northern Arizona had an 18-7 edge in points off turnovers and a 16-6 scoring average off the bench. Idaho State (5-22, 4-13) was led by Melvin Morgan, who scored 17 points. Andre Hatchett scored 12 points and Tomas Sanchez had 10.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — Gerardo Parra drove in three runs and threw out a base runner yesterday, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-5 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Willie Bloomquist had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run. The Reds built a 4-1 lead against starter Ian Kennedy and left-handed prospect Tyler Skaggs. Parra and Bloomquist helped put the Diamondbacks on top. Arizona's top pitching prospect, Tyler Skaggs, allowed three hits and walked three while retiring two batters.

AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The most popular motorsports series in Mexico will make its U.S. debut today at Phoenix International Raceway. The Mexico-based Toyota Series will hold its season opener at the track, and run as a support race for NASCAR's Sprint Cup, Nationwide and K&N West Series. The series began in 2004 and moved under the NASCAR banner in 2007. Drivers run Mexican V8 stock cars. Among the featured drivers is Daniel Suárez, a 20-year-old out of Monterrey, Mexico.
