GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - NASCAR teams are downsizing. The NBA has laid off 80 staffers.

These troubled economic times are affecting the sports world as well.

And according to multiple reports, the future of the Arena Football League is not bright. Two league sources told the Denver Post that if the league doesn't get an infusion of cash by December 19 then it could fold.

The AFL still hasn't released schedules for 2009.

It still doesn't have a commissioner to replace David Baker.

And it has postponed the dispersal draft of the recently disbanded New Orleans franchise three times.

The Grand Rapids Rampage, who have been in the league since 1998, continue to operate business as usual.

Rampage GM Scott Woodruff says the league is in negotiations with Platinum Equity Group to get that infusion of cash.
