Parchment girls' basketball coach dies

PARCHMENT, Mich. (WOOD) - Students and staff at Parchment High School are in mourning after the sudden death of the school's varsity girls basketball coach.

Kryn Brand died of an apparent heart attack.   Brand graduated from Parchment High School in 1994.  He was named the girls varsity coach two years ago and also coached boys freshman basketball.

All of Friday's nights basketball events have been cancelled.

School officials say Brand's dedication to Parchment was shown in his application for the girls varsity position.  Brand said "I care more about the people and the athletes around Parchment than anything else in my life, minus God and family."

In a statement, the school district says Brand's service, dedication and presence around the Parchment schools and community will be sorely missed.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 17 at Haven Reformed Church on Sprinkle Road in Parchment.
