GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The defense began their case in Tim Dawson's murder trial, bringing doctors and an assistant prosecutor to the stand.
Kevin Bramble, the Assistant Prosecutor for Kent County, took the stand as a defense witness. Last week, convicted murderer Marvin Snyder testified that, while he shared a cell with Dawson, Dawson told him he killed Julia.
But Bramble testified he does not find Snyder to be a truthful witness, and decided not to use Snyder in a case he's currently trying.
Defense attorney Chuck Rominger called Julia Dawson's doctor, Jeffrey Johnson, and asked about her medical history. He was followed by Dr. Thomas Spahn, who counseled them on their marriage.
Spahn saw Tim Dawson in December 2004. He said Tim seemed depressed and worried about his wife.
Before the prosecution rested, a recorded phone conversation between Dawson and his now-wife was played for the jury. In that conversation, Dawson told his Bilie Dean, who was then his girlfriend, not to take his mom's word for anything because she makes up stuff.
On the recordings, Tim and Billie tell each other how much they love each other, and Dean talks about a deposit she put on a house.
Last week, testimony showed someone made an insurance claim on Julia Dawson just days after she went missing. But Detective Randy Kieft said there is no phone record of Tim Dawson calling his insurance company.
Testimony wrapped up for the day. Judge James Redford said he expects the case to go to the jury either Tuesday or Wednesday.
24 Hour News 8 will continue to follow this case.
