ROCKFORD, Mich. (WOOD) - A paroled polygamist, thought to be up to his old tricks with two women, is wanted by the Department of Corrections and the women from whom he took money.
Dennis Gould is believed to be still on the run in a pickup truck belonging to Gail Ashdown, one of the women he allegedly scammed out of thousands of dollars. Now, Target 8 investigators heard from another woman who said she was dating Gould at the same time, and that they planned to buy a house together.
Ashdown is worried about financial ruin. She said Gould ran up thousands of dollars in charges on her credit cards, and when she caught on he took off in her 2008 blue Ford F-150.
"He's figured out how to make money off everyone," she said. "Still haven't got my truck. Haven't a clue on it."
She heard from another woman who was dating Gould in December.
"She called me on the phone and said, 'Are you Gail, do you live on Wabasis Avenue?' He had told her that I was his mother and had even used my car to run into town, but he was taking her out on a date."
Gould, she said, used her credit card to put $700 worth of tires on his girlfriend's car - while pocketing the money the other woman gave him for the tires.
It's the same pattern Target 8 investigators saw in 2006 when Gould was first profiled. At that time he was getting money from several women while being married to two of them. That resulted in his prison term for polygamy, and he was convicted of other frauds.
"He tells these wild tales and he throws money around. People always think he has money," Ashdown said. "And it's usually someone else's money."
Since Target 8 first reported on Gould's latest moves in December, authorities looked at the case.
Kent County prosecutors refused to charge Gould because he sometimes had Ashdown's permission to use her credit cards and truck. That would give him a defense in court.
However, Gould failed to report to his parole agent and the Department of Corrections lists him as a parole absconder. That makes him instantly arrestable.
