One of Britain's top sprinters can thank a talent scout that spotted him chasing a bus if he makes the 2012 Olympic team, according to the London Telegraph .
Jeffrey Lawal Balogun, 23, never had any track and field training as he was heading to a college class four years ago. When he saw the bus that he took to school approaching, he took off in a sprint to try to catch it.
Even though Balogun missed the bus, a coach from a local track club who happened to be walking by was impressed by his mad dash and recommended him to Clarence Callender, one of Britain's leading sprinting coaches.
With Callender's help, Balogun is now ranked as Britain's sixth fastest sprinter and hopes to compete in the 2012 London Olympics.
"I always knew that I was fast, but I didn't really know how to get into running," Balogun said. "I never thought running after a bus would lead to all this, and the funny thing is, I missed it."
If he does make the team, Balogun will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Linford Christie , who won the 100-meter gold medal in 1992 and still holds the British record in the event.
