MillerCoors is pulling a series of ads for Miller Lite after two Italian-American groups complained about ethnic stereotyping, according to the Chicago Sun-Times .
Chicago representatives of The Order of Sons of Italy in America lashed out against the ads that depict a new "taste protector" as a spoof of a mob-like figure offering "protection" to a clerk tending the beer aisles.
"We seem to be the last breed in America that ad agencies think they can take a shot at," said Lou Rago, founder of the Italian American Human Relations Foundation of Chicago.
Actor Frank Vincent, who appeared in the HBO mobster hit "The Sopranos" and is the "taste protector" in the ads thinks his fellow Italian-Americans need to lighten up.
"I think both of these groups should have a better sense of humor," Vincent told the Sun-Times . "The humor is there in the commercials, and a lot of people were enjoying the work."
