GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Proposals 3 and 5 - which would amend the Michigan constitution regarding renewable energy and future tax increases, respectively -- are overwhelmingly not favored by voters, a new EPIC-MRA poll shows.

The poll, conducted between Oct. 26-29 of 600 active and likely voters, reveals 55% plan to vote no both proposals.

Proposal 3 would amend the Michigan constitution to establish a standard for renewable energy and require electric utilities to provide at least 25% of their annual sales from renewable energy, including wind, solar, biomass and hydropower by 2025.

By a 55-35 margin, respondents said they would vote no on this. Of the remainder, 8% said they were undecided and another 2% said they would not vote on this proposal.

Proposal 5 would amend the Michigan constitution to require a 2/3rds majority vote of the State House and the State Senate, or a statewide vote of the people at a November election, in order for the State of Michigan to increase current taxes or create new ones.

By a margin of 55-30, respondents said they would vote no on this. Of the remainder, 12% were undecided and 3% said they would not vote on this proposal.

The poll was conducted on behalf of WOOD TV8 and our media partners. It has a 20% cell phone participation rate and a margin of error of 4%.
