EPIC poll: Obama by 10, Stabenow by 11

Largest margin yet in 2012

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Just days after the conclusion of the national conventions for the Republicans and Democrats, a new EPIC-MRA poll shows Barack Obama with a 10-point lead over Mitt Romney, and Debbie Stabenow with an 11-point lead over Pete Hoekstra.

The poll of 600 people for WOOD TV8 and our broadcast partners was started just two days after the Democrats finished their convention in Charlotte. It has a margin of error of 4%.

When asked who they would vote for if the election were held now, 47% of respondents chose Obama, while 37% choose Mitt Romney. In the race for the US Senate, Stabenow leads Hoekstra 49-38%.

In a July poll, Obama held a 48-42 lead over Romney.

Another EPIC-MRA poll using considerably different methodology -- not commissioned by WOOD TV8 -- showed a much closer margin in July.

This poll likely reflects a bump from the Democratic Convention. Regardless, this is the largest margin our pollsters have shown this year.

The question now is: can the Obama-Biden ticket build on this lead or will the Romney-Ryan ticket make Michigan a true battlegroundĀ  state.

24 Hour News 8 will continue to follow the election as Decision 2012 draws closer.
