Narrowly defeated Democrat Bill Farmer of Scotts

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Speaker of the House Jase Bolger (R-Marshall) will retain his legislative seat.

Bolger narrowly defeated Democratic challenger Bill Farmer of Scotts. With 100% of precincts reporting, Bolger had 51% of the vote. Farmer had 49%.

Bolger remains under some scrutiny for his involvement in the last-minute party-switch of Grand Rapids Rep. Roy Schmidt. He is still the subject of a one-person grand jury investigation requested by Michigan Democrats, but the Secretary of State said last week he did not break any campaign finance law in the scandal.

Bolger has served in the Michigan House of Representatives since 2008 and has been Speaker of the House since January 2011.
