Snyder: 'We're not here for us'

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The day after the State of the State, Gov. Rick Snyder's speech is drawing mixed reviews.

Republicans say the governor struck the right tone. Democrats say the address lacked specifics and direction.

Snyder laid out a big agenda. His detractors say it lacked specifics, but what it did not lack was a bit of unusual passion on the part of the governor.

Near the end of his speech he spoke directly to lawmakers and used one of his biggest action items -- roads -- as an example. He admonished legislators to move beyond politics.

"We're hired by the people of the State of Michigan and our role is to give them great customer service," said Snyder. "We can use some common sense and get it done."

"We are not here for us. It's an honor and a privilege to be elected," he added.

But that call to action didn't necessarily change any minds on the Democratic side of the aisle.
