LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) - A few dozen people with placards listened to politicians -- including GOP gubernatorial candidate Mike Bouchard -- talk about the necessity of verifying the citizenship of people getting jobs.
Though Arizona's immigration law has received the most attention, a number of states, Michigan included, are considering legislation.
Some of the people who rallied at the Capitol were Tea Party members, while others said they were there to support necessary laws to protect jobs for legal Michigan residents.
One bill being offered in the House would take revenue sharing from so-called 'sanctuary cities' that don't enforce immigration laws. The rally focused on the proposed legislation, but a sponsor of some of those bills, Rep. Dave Agema, focused on why they haven't been voted on .
With the legislature still grappling with the state budget and elections on the horizon, it isn't clear when or if any of the immigration measures will see legislative action.
Arizona's new law has put the state in the epicenter of the immigration debate.
