LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Republicans who control the Michigan Senate again have rejected several appointments from Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

The appointments rejected 21-17 Tuesday mostly along party lines include Granholm nominees for the Northern Michigan University and Grand Valley State University governing boards.

The dispute is over whether an outgoing or incoming governor should have control over appointments that take effect Jan. 1 or earlier in some cases.

Granholm leaves office at noon Jan. 1. She can't run for office again because of Michigan's term limits law.

Republicans also rejected some of Granholm's appointments earlier this year.

Granholm's administration says the move by Senate Republicans goes against past practices.
