Miles won't run for Congress in 2012

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Pat Miles, the Democrat who lost to Justin Amash in the 2010 race to replace Vern Ehlers as the congressman from Michigan's 3rd District, will not run again in 2012.

Miles made the announcement in an email to his friends and supporters.

In part, his email stated, "...it is best that I serve this community now in other productive ways. Among other things, I am continuing to help local small businesses and entrepreneurs grow and get more people back to work. Although I've spent the past 25 years working in the private sector, I fully expect to try and serve the people at some point in the future in a public capacity..."

He is a lawyer at Dickinson Wright PLLC in Grand Rapids and the president of the Grand Rapids Black Chamber of Commerce.

In the election, Miles received 85,463 votes (37%) while Amash took the seat with 136,051 votes (60%.)

At this writing, no one from either party has announced any plans to run.
