Kuipers wants Jacqmain answers from DOC

May want formal hearings in Lansing

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Wayne Kuipers wants to see the Department of Corrections director on Tuesday to find out how Jack Jacqmain's status as a parolee slipped away when he was transferred from jail to two mental health facilities.

Kuipers, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has followed the story of Jacqmain, who's wanted for the fatal stabbing of an Indianapolis man at a Walker motel on August 18.

When Jacqmain was transferred from the Kent County Jail to different mental health facilities -- all under the oversight of the DOC -- his parolee status was not communicated clearly, and he walked away from a facility.

Kuipers told 24 Hour News 8 it was "too convenient that they have a number of agencies that can point the finger at each other," and that it looks like "everybody dropped the ball, and now nobody has answers."

Kuipers said if he can't get answers in his office Tuesday or Wednesday, the judiciary committee will take it up formally and call administrators from the Department of Corections to testify in front of the committee at the State House.
