BRONSON, Mich. (WOOD/AP) - A 22-year-old mother has been accused in the murder of her 5-month-old daughter, who prosecutors say had a skull fracture.
Mariela Flores-Valle was arraigned Wednesday on charges of felony murder and first-degree child abuse, according to Branch County authorities.
Authorities were called to Flores-Valle's home at Brookfield Apartments on Feb. 4 to reports of a child not breathing. The baby girl was revived at the time and taken to a local hospital.
The girl, identified as Diane Perez, died on Feb. 5 after life support was removed.
An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was blunt force injuries to the head. She also had a broken leg, arm and ribs.
Charges for Flores-Valle were issued April 16. She turned herself in for arraignment on Wednesday.
Defense lawyer David Moore says an arraignment was held Wednesday and his client was held without bond. She's due back in court May 16 for a preliminary hearing, according to the Associated Press.
Moore says his client is a loving mother and she "would never in a million years" hurt any of her children.
Child Protective Services removed the child's twin brother and two other children from the home.
