NEW YORK (WOOD) - The pharmaceutical company Pfizer is recalling birth control tablet blister packs after it was discovered that some packs contained out-of-order tablets.
The company is recalling 14 lots of Lo/Ovral-28 (norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol) Tablets and 14 lots of Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets (generic) in the U.S.
The company said that because of a packaging error, "the daily regimen for these oral contraceptives may be incorrect and could leave women without adequate contraception, and at risk for unintended pregnancy."
Pfizer said that anyone using the recalled tables should begin a non-hormonal form of contraception immediately. They should talk to their doctor and return faulty contraceptives to the pharmacy.
"These products are packaged in blister packs containing 21 tablets of active ingredients and seven tablets of inert ingredients," a release from Pfizer said.
The company said it identified the cause of the problems and corrected it.
The company said the error does not cause immediate health risks.
