Not too late to get the flu shot

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - So far, the flu season is off to an early and strong start.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials say they haven't seen this many patients visiting doctors for the flu since 2004. Cases have already jumped in several Southern states, and it has been one of the earliest-hitting flu seasons there in a decade.

If you haven't gotten your flu shot yet, it's not too late.

This year's vaccine seems to be on target with the strong strain of flu that is going around.

Check with your doctor or county health department about the availability of the shot or FluMist. You can also get them at Meijer, CVS, Walgreens, or Rite-Aid stores.

Doctors say it takes about two weeks after you have received the shot or mist for it to kick in, so you may want to get it sooner rather than later.

Doctors say anyone more than 6 months old should get vaccinated.

Keep in mind, the flu spreads quicker in the winter when the air is drier.

We will hear from the C-D-C today about this year's flu season but again if you want to get your flu shot you still have time.
