AUGUSTA, Mich. (WOOD) - Fifteen soldiers from the Michigan Army National Guard are preparing for a 12-month deployment to Liberia.
Friends and family will bid farewell to the soldiers during a ceremony at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Fort Custer Training Center Auditorium in Augusta. The soldiers will then depart for Fort Benning, Ga., and then Liberia.
The soldiers are from several Michigan Army National Guard units. They will be part of a Traveling Contact Team responsible for teaching the Armed Forces of Liberia everything from drill and ceremony to basic infantry tactics.
