MANISTEE, Mich. (WOOD/WPBN) - A Grand Rapids man is behind bars in Manistee County after leading police on a chase on M-115 at speeds greater than 110 mph.
Deputies were trying to pull the man over for speeding when he took off. He later crashed into a guardrail. He left his car in the middle of the road where it burst into flames and he ran into the woods.
Shortly after that, Michigan State Police troopers got a phone call from another man, who said he gave the suspect a ride. Troopers found him near Crystal Lake in Benzie County.
The suspect tried to get away by jumping into the lake, and trying to swim across.
Troopers eventually got him out of the water, but he was uncooperative and police say they were forced to use a stun gun on him.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor. The suspect's name isn't being released yet.
