LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan health officials are reporting a higher number of flu cases earlier than usual this year, in line with findings in other parts of the country.
The Detroit News reports Wednesday that according to recent numbers there were 63 cases of flu in the state, up from 34 a week earlier.
The state says say 23 of the cases are in southeast Michigan, 20 are in southwestern Michigan, 14 are in central Michigan and six are in northern Michigan. Officials say Michigan doesn't usually see such flu numbers until January and February.
Precautions including flu shots when appropriate are recommended.
The Michigan Department of Community Health in October announced the first seasonal flu cases confirmed in Michigan during the 2012-2013 season.
