GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - There are three new sled-dog events on the 2009-10 race season calendar for Michigan.

The 420-mile Seney 400 is scheduled for Jan. 3-8 in the Upper Peninsula community of Seney, the up to 150-mile Thunder Bay Classic is Feb. 13-14 in the Alpena area and the 150-mile Copper Dog 150 is March 12-14 in Calumet.

The Seney 400 is a longer version of the Seney 300, which was started in 2001.

The group Mid-Union Sled Haulers is organizing the Thunder Bay Classic. Publicity director Tim Dewey tells The Grand Rapids Press the organization added the new race to spread out the location of its races.

The Copper Dog 150 is a late-season race. It's expected to begin at night in downtown Calumet, like the U.P. 200 in Marquette.
