SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) - One person died and another was hurt in a two-vehicle crash in South Haven Wednesday morning, police told 24 Hour News 8.
Police and rescue personnel were dispatched at 7:15 a.m. to Phoenix Road (County Road 388) and 71 1/2 Street (County Road 689).
A woman driving a southbound minivan told police she did not stop at the intersection, for unknown reasons at this time, resulting in a collision with an eastbound box truck.
The driver of the truck -- Steven Efting -- was not wearing a seat belt and ejected from the vehicle, which rolled on him, police at the scene told 24 Hour News 8. The 50-year-old from Bangor died at the scene.
The woman, from the South Haven area, suffered non-life threatening injuries and taken to South Haven Health System.
The intersection was closed for several hours as authorities investigated and transferred the spilled boxes of snack cakes from the wrecked truck to a rental truck.
Investigators said speed, drugs or alcohol were not factors in the crash. The case has been forwarded to the Van Buren County Prosecutor's Office for review.
Police told 24 Hour News 8 this is the second serious crash to occur at this intersection due to a driver missing a stop sign.
