STURGIS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Sturgis Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying and tracking down a man accused of trying to rob a Walmart store.

The attempted crime occurred around 8 p.m. Dec. 26, 2012 at the business, 1500 S. Centerville Road, police said.

The suspect gained the confidence of management, requesting they talk privately, according to a news release.

During the conversation, the suspect's intentions were made known and a handgun was displayed, police said.

The suspect did not steal any money and fled the store south on S. Centerville Road in a possibly red, mid-sized, four-door, passenger car.

The suspect, described as a white man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, in his mid 50s, was wearing a brown dress hat; a tan, full-length dress coat; and a dark-colored suit.

The Sturgis Police Department on Monday released a surveillance photo of the suspect in the store, and a sketch of his face.

You are asked to call police at 269.467.4195 or Crime Stoppers at 800.342.7867 if you can help solve this case.
