BANGOR, Mich. (WOOD) - A man who agreed to board three cows for a farmer is wanted by police for allegedly trading two of them for a four-wheeler and selling the third.
A felony warrant has been issued for larceny by conversion for a 26-year-old man from Bangor. He may have moved to North Carolina for another job opportunity, police said in a release.
On July 14, police went to 26041 County Road 681 on a report of three cows being stolen. The animals' owner called police and said he had made a contract agreement with the suspect to board his cows from May to November.
The suspect claimed the cows had gotten loose from his farm and he could not find them, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies conducted an investigation and learned the cows did not walk away, and that two of them were traded for a four-wheeler to a man from out of state.
The third cow was sold at an auction house in Indiana, police said.
The case was given to the county prosecutor's office.
