Student leaves rifle in car, busted

BRONSON, Mich. (WOOD) - A Branch County student will be disciplined after school officials found a rifle in his car.

Bronson Junior Senior High School administrators spotted the weapon in a vehicle in the parking lot while doing routine parking sticker checks Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called, and the student was interviewed and said he accidentally left the squirrel hunting rifle in the car.

There was no threat to students or staff.

School officials sent a letter to parents and the media --

This afternoon, Bronson Jr./Sr. High administrators did a routine parking sticker check. In one of the vehicles some ammunition was seen. The local police were notified and they responded immediately. The vehicle was identified and the student was interviewed. Unfortunately, the student had left a squirrel hunting rifle in the car. As soon as that became known the officer removed and took possession of the hunting rifle. It was determined that there was no threat to students or staff. The student fully cooperated in the process. He will be subject to discipline according to school policy and the law. We make every effort to keep our students safe. Also, we ask that you please be respectful of all parties. Thank you.
