SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A driver who tried to pass a semi-truck caused another vehicle to swerve and crash into the truck, police said.
Yusuf Mohamud, 41, from Minnesota was driving his semi-truck northbound on M-51 near Corwin Street in Silver Creek Township.
Nicole Sanson, 32, from Dowagiac was southbound and swerved to avoid the passing vehicle.
Sanson's vehicle went off the road on the right and she tried to get back on the road but over-corrected and proceeded in front of the semi-truck, resulting in the collision, police said.
Cass County rescue personnel arrived at the scene at 11:33 a.m. Wednesday and took Sanson to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac. A medical helicopter later took her to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Sanson was not wearing a seat belt and Mohamud was wearing one, police said.
Witnesses told police the passing vehicle was a red passenger car driven by a white male who left the scene.
You are asked to call the sheriff's department if you know anything about this wreck.
