COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - There is another leak at the troubled Palisades nuclear power plant, though Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials say it's nothing to worry about.
Like most nuclear power plants around the country, Palisades is aging and has sprung two significant leaks in the last few months that caused the plant to shut down.
The NRC said the latest leak at the Covert Township plant is not anywhere near that serious, but is something it is keeping an eye on.
It's a pinhole leak in a valve that is part of piping that brings Lake Michigan water into the plant. The NRC said it appears stable at a cup and a half an hour and has no impact on plant operations.
But because of all the previous problems, the NRC said it is reporting minor issues it wouldn't normally tell the public about and releasing information about anything the public might be interested in.
The NRC said it is monitoring the leak and has no immediate safety concerns.
