Detroit resident shot in Niles

NILES, Mich. (WOOD) - Nobody has been arrested yet in connection with the shooting of a male from Detroit in Berrien County.

Niles police officers were dispatched at 7:23 p.m. Monday to a residence in the 200 block of N. Sixth Street.

They arrived and saw the victim -- 19-year-old Jonathan Cook -- inside the home and suffering from a single gunshot wound to his abdomen, police said.

He was treated at the scene and transported to Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery, according to a news release.

The motive for the shooting is unknown and the incident remains under investigation.

Police have not released a suspect description.
