PORTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A woman fell asleep while driving her vehicle, also occupied by her two young children, and crashed along a Cass County road, police said.

It was around 7:50 p.m. Saturday when police and rescue personnel were dispatched to the crash site on U.S. 12 near Vera Drive in Porter Township.

Ginnie Wallace, 40, from Three Rivers was traveling east when her vehicle went off the road and struck a  generator and a pole.

Wallace was transported to Elkhart General Hospital.

Her 9- and 7-year-old children were not injured, and released to other family members at the scene.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident and seat belts were used, police said in a news release.
