ALMENA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A crash into a ditch Saturday morning led Van Buren County sheriff's deputies to arrest two Kalamazoo women.
Authorities responded to the car accident near the Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery, 34270 County Road 652 in Mattawan.
Deputies arrived and saw a black 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix traveling east on M-43 when its driver lost control of the car, which then crashed into a ditch on the north side of the road.
The driver contacted a tow truck company and a wrecker driver called officials who were told warrants had been issued against the passenger involved in the crash.
All of the other passengers appeared intoxicated, police said.
Deputies discovered the driver of the Grand Prix was intoxicated after a Breathalyzer test showed a .11 blood alcohol content level. The driver admitted drinking a mixed drink and a wine cooler a few hours before the crash, polcie said.
The unnamed driver, a 20-year-old woman from the Kalamazoo area, was arrested on an operating while intoxicated charge. Vivian Lee, a 21-year-old from the Kalamazoo area, was arrested on two warrants for contempt of court.
