NEW BUFFALO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - An Illinois man died following a Sunday morning car crash in Berrien County.

It happened around 11 a.m. on eastbound I-94 between the Michigan-Indiana state line and Wilson Road in New Buffalo Township, according to the Berrien County Sheriff's Department.

A preliminary investigation indicated 84-year-old Erdman Spradlin of Naperville, Ill. lost control of his Subaru Forrester as he was traveling west on I-94. He crossed the median and struck an eastbound Dodge Neon driven by 50-year-old Debra Moss of Ann Arbor.

Spradlin died of his injuries at the scene.

His wife and passenger, 84-year-old Mary Spradlin, as well as Moss were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the wreck. The Berrien County Accident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate.

The Berrien County Sheriff's New Buffalo Township Patrol, county accident reconstruction team, Michigan State Police, New Buffalo City Police, Pokagon Tribal Police Department, Chikaming Township Police Department, Medic 1 Ambulance, Three Oaks Ambulance, New Buffalo Township Fire Department, New Buffalo City Fire Department and Indiana State Police responded to the scene.
