Illinois man drowns at Michigan beach

Victim found in rip current off St. Joseph beach

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (WOOD) - An Illinois man drowned at a Berrien County beach Sunday afternoon.

The victim, 42-year-old Anthony Joseph Kelly of Montgomery, Ill. was pulled from Lake Michigan at St. Joseph's Tiscornia Beach.

He was in 12 feet of water in a rip current about 350 yards from the beach, according to a news release.

Kelly was taken to Lakeland Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Waves in Lake Michigan were reportedly between 6 and 8 feet, according to St. Joseph Department of Public Safety.
