BREEDSVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - A 12-year-old girl was hurt when the sled, which she was riding and being pulled by a snowmobile, struck a tree.
It happened at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the yard of a residence in the 200 block of E. Main Street in Breedsville.
A 15-year-old boy from Breedsville was driving the snowmobile.
The girl from Breedsville was in a plastic sled, which was attached by an 8-foot rope and being pulled by the snowmobile, police said.
The boy turned the snowmobile, causing the sled to swing out from the path of the snowmobile track and strike a tree, according to a news release from the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department.
The girl suffered injuries to her head and a leg. The boy was wearing a helmet but she was not.
The girl's mom transported the child to South Haven Health System. The girl is in good condition and expected to be released from the hospital.
Deputies responded to the hospital and talked with the girl and her mother. Deputies also talked to the boy and his mother at the scene.
Police said the boy was not speeding and no laws were violated.
