SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) - Remember when you could buy gas for less than $2 a gallon?
In South Haven Monday, residents weren't just remembering. They were living low gas prices.
Drivers in that area told 24 Hour News 8 the price war started over the weekend. The price of gas at some stations dropped to around $2.80 per gallon.
When a 24 Hour News 8 crew showed up in town Monday, the Shell station was lowering the price to $1.99 per gallon, though they also said they were out of gas as of 6 p.m.
People lined up at the South Haven Walmart and waited as long as half an hour Monday afternoon to buy gas at half price.
"We were coming anyways, then I saw $2.89, and thought that can't be right. I didn't really need gas, but for $2.89, I'll do it," said Scott Clayton, who was among those who waited.
Prices were back up in the normal range by Monday night.
