BUCHANAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Authorities have charged a Buchanan man with four illegal drug-related offenses after searching a house and finding various drugs on the property and also on the man during a cavity search.
The Berrien County Sheriff's Department's Narcotics Unit arrested 40-year-old Trent K. Britton at 15382 Main St. in Buchanan Township.
During the search of the house at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 12, deputies found and seized about $500 of heroin, a small amount of cocaine, and other evidence related to illegal drug trafficking.
The investigation started two weeks ago after citizens informed the Buchanan City Police Department about potential drug activity in the household.
Britton was originally arrested on charges of possession of heroin with intent to deliver (second offense), possession of cocaine (second offense) and maintaining a drug house (second offense).
He was later charged with smuggling drugs into the jail after officers discovered a small amount of heroin in his body cavity. He is currently held at the Berrien County Jail.
Two other adults located in the house when Britton were arrested but later released without criminal charges pursued against them.
