ANTWERP TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Two children were in an SUV when a 37-year-old woman was arrested for drunk driving in Antwerp Township on Friday afternoon.
Based on a preliminary test, the Portage woman was five times over the legal limit of .08, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department.
Witnesses reported the woman was slumped over the steering wheel and that there were two young children in the car.
Officers on the scene said the driver was passed out and unresponsive inside the 2005 Dodge Durango around 3:30 p.m.
A party cup half full of vodka was found inside the vehicle, police said.
Both children, ages two and four, were unharmed and turned over to a day care provider used by the woman.
The woman is being held in the Van Buren County Jail. She was arrested on two counts of child endangerment and for operating while intoxicated with open intoxicants in the vehicle.
Her name is being withheld pending arraignment.
