WAYNE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A driver lost control of a vehicle after its passenger become distressed, police said.

Cass County sheriff's deputies were dispatched about 7:20 p.m. Sunday to the scene on M-51 south of M-152 in Wayne Township.

Police said a 30-year-old Dowagiac woman was driving but did not identify the passenger in a news release.

The vehicle went off the road, overturned and struck a sign and a tree, police said.

The passenger was injured in the crash and taken to a hospital.

At this time it is unknown if the occupants were wearing seat belts, or if alcohol was a factor in the crash, police said.
