COLOMA CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A Benton Harbor father and his 4-year-old daughter are recovering at a Kalamazoo hospital after their car was hit by an Amtrak train Saturday morning.
The accident happened on Kerlikowske Road in Coloma Charter Township around 9:40 a.m.
Michigan State Police tell 24 Hour News 8 the car went through the railroad intersection right when a train going from Grand Rapids to Chicago started to cross. The intersection has flashing lights, but no cross bar.
The driver, 27-year-old Anthony Bearty, and his 4-year-old daughter Mikayla Bearly were airlifted to a Kalamazoo hospital; their conditions are unknown at this time.
There were approximately 140 passengers on the Amtrak train; no one on the train was hurt.
