Crashed driver: My blood sugar was low

ANTWERP TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A 55-year-old Portage man is in a hospital after crashing his car in Van Buren County.
David Beattie told investigators at the scene that it appears his blood sugar was too low, which caused him to lose consciousness for a moment, resulting in the wreck.
The crash occurred around 12:15 p.m. Thursday in the 23000 block of 60th Avenue in Antwerp Township.
Police and rescue personnel arrived and saw Beattie's Honda Accord on its roof off the side of the road, and the driver trapped inside the vehicle.
Beattie suffered head and body trauma, and was extricated and transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He is listed in stable condition.
He was wearing a seat belt and the vehicle's air bags deployed, preventing more serious injuries, police said.
