COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A southwestern Michigan nuclear plant has been removed from service due to a cooling water leak.

MLive.com reports
Sunday that officials at the Palisades plant in Covert Township said in a notification that the "minor leak"

was discovered in a containment building.

Removing the plant from service is described by the plant's operators as a "conservative measure." The leak was being repaired.

New Orleans-based Energy Corp. owns the plant in Van Buren County's Covert Township, southwest of Grand Rapids.

The company said no radioactive material was released outside the plant and "Palisades will be returned to service when repairs are completed."

Operators shut down the reactor June 12 to repair a leak in a refueling water storage tank at the plant. The plant was returned online by July 11.
