SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A teenager told police he got distracted before crashing a car occupied by four other teens.

The wreck occurred around 4:31 a.m. Sunday on Downey Street west of Red Mill Road in Silver Creek Township in Cass County.

Devin Cromer, 17, from St. Joseph told police he was traveling west when the vehicle went off the road to the right and struck a tree.

The passengers in the vehicle were 16-year-old Maggie Denly, 17-year-old Vendela Hale, and 16-year-old Tori Smith, all from Dowagiac; and Logan Martin from Eau Claire, Wisc.

Everybody was transported to Lakeland HealthCare in Niles, except for Logan Martin who was transported to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac.

Alcohol was not a factor and seat belts were worn at the time of the accident, according to a news release.
