MATTESON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Two people died after their vehicle crashed along a Branch County road Thursday afternoon.

Michael Wielgos was driving east on M-86 near Lyter Road in Matteson Township. He may have suffered a medical condition, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which went off the road and crashed into a tree, according to a news release.

Wielgos, 57, from Bronson died at the scene around 1:30 p.m.

His passenger -- 60-year-old Patti Schell from Bronson -- died at a hospital

The vehicle's air bags deployed and the occupants did not wear seat belts, police said.

Police said alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
