'The Price is Right' gave investigators a clue

BLOOMINGDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Around 11 a.m. on March 21 -- Biff Diamond's 85th birthday -- he was watching "The Price is Right" as he usually does.

"That's what give me the idea of what time it was when everything was going on," said Diamond.

Then, there was a knock at his door.

"I got up to answer the door and he knocked me to the floor -- shoved me down and tied me up face-down," recalled Diamond.

But Diamond was able to escape while the robber was in the back of the house.

"I got loose the first time," he said.

When the suspect realized Diamond had gotten free, he tied him up again. He forced Diamond to his couch and put a pillow over his head.

"When he put that pillow the back of my head, I thought he was going to shoot me in the back of the head," said Diamond.

But Diamond was not about to lose faith.

"I just kept wriggling my hands and it worked itself loose. Then I got my hands and then my feet," said Diamond.

By then, the suspect was gone. Diamond called his girlfriend, Betty Webster, and told her she should come home from work.

"I don't even care what they took from the home," said Webster. "That doesn't bother me. It bothers me what they did to Biff."

Diamond barely got a look at the suspect, but was able to provide investigators with some details.

"The suspect was reported to be taller than 5'7" and having a medium build. At the time of the incident, the suspect was believed to have a mustache. Also identified during the incident was either a bad or missing front tooth," police said in a news release Monday.

And "The Price is Right" is giving police another clue.

"It was during the first 'Showcase Showdown,' so we know it was about 11:15," said Trooper Andrew Jeffrey.

Diamond admitted he was scared, but he's taking the incident in stride.

"I just hope they catch this guy, 'cause if he done it to one, he'll do it to another," said Diamond.

You are asked to call the Michigan State Police Paw Paw Post if you can help solve this case.
