GOBLES, Mich. (WOOD) - The pastor of the Gobles United Methodist Church died Tuesday morning when the bicycle he was riding was hit by a car on County Road 388 in Van Buren County.
Edward Mohr was riding his bike on the shoulder of the northbound lane of CR 388 near 14th Avenue around 10:20 a.m. when, authorities said, he was hit by a Toyota Scion driven by a 63-year-old Grand Junction man.
Emergency responders were called and they found a person tending to Mohr in the ditch near a blueberry field. He died at the scene.
Mohr was 64. He leaves behind a wife and children.
The investigation continues and will eventually be turned over to the county prosecutor's office for review.
Mohr was also pastor of Kendall United Methodist on Country Road 388 in Kendall, according to Chair of the Pastor Parish Committee Dee Clement. He had been with both churches for little under three years.
Mohr hardly ever took any days off, Clement told 24 Hour News 8, and likely took today off to ride his bike to South Haven and spend the day there.
A prayer service will be held at Gobles United Methodist 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Clement said.
