HOWARD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Authorities have charged a man in connection with a double homicide from two years ago.
John Tarwacki, 40, and his 39-year-old wife, Carolyn, were found dead in their Howard Township home on Feb. 5, 2010.
The apparent suspect was seen leaving the area in Cass County after the crime.
"Police at the scene found little evidence that could be used to identify possible suspects in what appeared to be a random act of violence," according to a news release.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office, Michigan State Police, Niles Police Department, and Berrien County Sheriff's Office worked on the case.
Investigators received nearly 800 tips and interviewed more than 300 witnesses.
Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz handed the case to the Michigan Attorney General's Office for assistance.
Then on Wednesday it was announced that state police arrested 30-year-old Keith Lintz in his hometown of Niles.
Lintz was arraigned Thursday with two counts of first-degree murder (possible life sentence with parole) and one count of possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony (two-year felony).
Investigators said Lintz murdered the couple "through a brutal attack, which included beatings, multiple stabbings and gunshot wounds."
"This is a tragic case and we are ready to secure justice and closure for the family and friends of John and Carolyn Tarwacki," Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said in the news release.
Authorities will have a news conference at 11 a.m. Thursday to discuss further details of the case.
The Tarwackis worked in Stevensville at Quinlan & Fabish Music Co., formerly known as Blessing Music Co. They supplied instruments, gear and maintenance contracts to music educators throughout Berrien and Cass counties.
