CENTREVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - The parents of Calista Springer want to appeal their convictions, but with separate attorneys.
Anthony and Marsha Springer have asked the St. Joseph Circuit County to appoint them the attorneys. The court clerk told 24 Hour News 8 she will forward the request to the appellate court.
The Springers were sentenced April 16 in connection with the death of their 16-year-old daughter, who was chained to her bed when their St. Joseph County home went up in flames.
Both were sentenced to up to 50 years in prison for child abuse and torture, but not murder.
No word on when an appeal will be filed or what argument they will make.
