SAUGATUCK, Mich. (WOOD) - A millage that passed by two votes on May 4 will be recounted on May 28, the Allegan County Clerk's Office confirmed to 24 Hour News 8.
By a vote of 491-489, the proposal asking for a 0.5 mill increase for two years to help cover fees and expenses related to Saugatuck Township's legal defense over zoning the Denison Dunes owned by Aubrey McClendon passed. In practical terms, a resident with a $100,000 home will pay an extra $50 year, and will bring in nearly $127,000 per year.
McClendon is suing the township over tax and zoning issues.
The official recount was requested by Walter Hanlin Jr. and will begin at 11 a.m. It is open to the public.
